An Affiliate Network Owned & Ran By Affiliates

With the exception of maybe half a dozen good networks, it really is about time there was an affiliate network owned & ran by affiliates, or do affiliates have more sense that to become entangled & embroiled in that area, since networks are often in an unenviable predicament and maybe taking on more than they can chew, but overall there has been a real lack of innovation.

Do you mean like Paid On Results?

The only problem with this is that some affiliates may not trust the network. POR was lucky in that it was lead by someone who is very well known, respected and trusted in the AM World. There would be feelings of favouritism for certain affiliates who are friends with the founders, which can only cause problems when it comes to closed programs.

Personally, I think networks should take affiliate on, either fulltime or in a consultancy role. I think this would help the network understand where us guys are coming from.

Hi … You have a valid point and I guess it would depend on who owned the network. Paid On Results is co owned & run by a friend and glad to say that we have been treated on a level playing field, which is all we ask.

However, I cannot imagine any network owned or run by an affiliate would be worse than what is currently happening with a couple of networks at the moment.

Your point about networks bringing on affiliates on full time or in a paid consultancy role is good, as there certainly seems to be a skills shortage in this area & understanding of the affiliates mind-set.

However we have seen examples of this so called “consultancy” level in the past whereby affiliates are easily swayed to give favourable opinion of a network over a token drink or meal or £50 … Whoopee Doo (I say sarcastically) .. perhaps all networks should be encouraged to make available the merchants contact details to affiliates .. mutually permitted between affiliate & merchant so they can make their own “consultancy” arrangements between them without the network sugar-coating affiliates exact comments, adding corporate speel or claiming to be their own.

I find it difficult to comprehend that networks like Tradedoubler, Buy.at, DGM and others are reluctant to do this .. maybe paranoia.
